North Carolina Communities
There
is something for everyone in this magnificent region, which is considered
by many to be one of the most beautiful areas in the continental
United States. Peppered with mountains, dappled with lakes and streams,
and infused with a rich cultural and historical past, this glorious
region is a delight for golfers, epicureans and outdoor adventurers
alike.
Wind
through the spectacular vistas along the Blue Ridge Parkway, viewing
252 miles of seemingly endless eye candy and limitless adventures,
that starts in the Great Smoky Mountains along the western edge
of North Carolina all the way to the Shenandoah National Park in
Virginia. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and you can practically
smell the fragrant pine and wild flowers that perfume the cool mountain
air. Along the way, indulge in a lazy picnic overlooking snow-peaked
summits, or test your limits in hiking, riding, fishing, swimming,
rafting, mountain bike riding, white water rafting, golfing, observing
wildlife, or even spin a reel at a bluegrass hoe-down!
Speaking
of reels, anglers will want to bring them along. Cast to a native
brook trout or a tenacious brown or rainbow in one of the many pristine
mountain streams, lakes and rivers that dot the region. Golfer's
heads will spin faster than Tiger Wood's swing when contemplating
the hundred of courses to choose from. Some say North Carolina is
golf, and here you can believe it. Play on the same turf as legends
(Palmer, Nicklaus and Ross), tee off under Mt. Mitchell or simply
enjoy a clear mountain vista.
Follow
the powdery tracks that southern skiers careen down during the splendiferous
winter season. Select between the master peaks Beech Mountain (5,506'
summit) or Sugar Mountain (5,300'), or some of the many other popular
slopes for some spectacular down-hill skiing, cross country skiing,
or snow-boarding. From Brevard to Blowing Rock, North Carolina has
some of the finest ski resorts!
Those
with a taste for the "finer things" and the leisurely pace and comfort
for which the South and the region are famous, will not be disappointed.
Sample world-class cuisine from the some 25,000 fine restaurants
across the region. Research and experience the history of this place,
the homeland of the Cherokee Indians and Daniel Boone. Music lovers
will enjoy the Brevard Music Center's nightly summer concerts or
the many musical and cultural events at the Asheville Civic Center—and
while you're there don't miss a visit to the legendary Biltmore
Estate. Learn folk arts like quilting, weaving, blacksmithing and
soap making in Brasstown, visit a Cherokee Community that's locked
in time back to 1750 at the Oconaluftee Indian Village or stroll
the streets of Blowing Rock and its quaint shops.
It's
all there. Come explore the glory of the North Carolina mountains,
and let navi-gator® show you the way.
