You've finally made it! You're on board and
anticipating several days or weeks of shipboard
fun. You'll soon discover there's a wide variety
of activities available, ranging from the sedate
to the adventurous. As a general rule, the larger
the ship, the more things there are to do, but
most offer something for everyone. 
WELCOME
ABOARDAs your cruise begins, you'll be met at the gangway by a steward/stewardess who will escort you to your room. You'll be asked to finalize your vacation plans by checking on your dinner reservations and setting up a credit account in the purser's office (most ships use a cashless system). You should also take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the ship's layout; this simple step can help you avoid getting lost later! You are also required to participate in a mandatory lifeboat drill within 24 hours of setting sail--the time and procedures for the drill will be outlined for you by staff.
PREPARING
TO GOPORT SIDE!
Now it's time to let the fun begin by planning what you'll do at each port. You'll receive a list of the tours and sightseeing trips which are available at each port (most carry a charge, although adventure or expedition cruises often include the tours in the initial package). To avoid having to make a hasty decision when selecting tours, it's often advisable to request this list in advance so that you have time to read the literature and make an informed selection.
Remember,
you don't have to take an organized tour--you
are welcome to strike out on your own at any of
the stops. Most ships offer port talks, conducted
by the excursion director, which describe each
port, outline shopping and other activities, and
provide tips on avoiding pitfalls and scams. Regardless of whether you join in the organized tours or do your own thing, you're sure to find plenty of activities to make your vacation enjoyable and memorable. Anchors away!
